Icon Tutorial 2010 by cheepers Icon Tutorial 2010 by cheepers
iaza.com can be used to resize your image or make it transparent.

Hopefully this is helpful. Keep in mind this tutorial is meant to show my process and tips. It isn't meant to teach you how to use MS Paint. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Character in this tutorial belongs to ~complaint-dept

PS link me any icons that this helped you make

If you're using the old ms paint, it should be under image>attributes
In the newer paint, there's a little resize option right on the main toolbar.

Oh yeah MS paint is really bad at that. You'll have to resize it in another program or use iaza.com. Iaza has a resize thing, you just have to browse through the options. If neither of those work, you can send me the image and I'll resize it for you!

how do you animate it? :)

I just use Iaza.com usually. It has an animate feature. If you're looking for a specific program, you'll have to find another tutorial. I lost the old program I used to animate with so I wasn't able to include that in the tutorial.

Oh you don't really need to change the opacity, it just helps. If you ever make an icon though, I'd be happy to change the opacity of the sketch for you! Just drop me a note.

Thank you by the way!

oh my!
no need to do that ;u;
even if i had opacity, it wouldnt really make a difference
the picture gets overly distorted if i minimize it on mspaint XDDD
but thank you though!

Oh yeah that happens too. Iaza.com can also resize things pretty well and I'd also do that for you if you'd ever like. I don't think anyone should have to be limited because a program isn't that good ahah

sketching sizes don't really matter. Shrunk it will be either 100x50 or 50x100

I dont now how people make convincing 5050 icons unless they sketch bigger first. To me, that is definitely the KEY to making a good icon.

Ah, I didnt know people still used this technique. XD But, well, I dont hang out at oekakis much anymore so I'm not all 'in' w/ pixel art as much as I used to be.
This is really interesting though! I really like it when people share w/ others how they make their stuff. I remember trying this sort of thing one time (not exactly the same way, but close). My favorite part of pixeling is making the bg's. :) /faves

I wasn't aware there were other techniques actually hahaha Yeahh I don't oekaki either but I love my MS paint haha.

I'll have to try doing a background at some point. I've only ever done 50x50 icons but I think I'll try more haha
